What we are offering in 2024:

Chicken:

Last year, we were able to connect with dozens of local families to provide them with chicken from our farm and we are going to do it again! This year some things are staying the same, and some things are going to be tweaked just a little bit.

The big change this year is that every chicken this year must be purchased ahead of time. This is for a two fold reason:

First, this allows our farm to grow at the pace that the community needs us to. We want to foster local economy and grow sustainably. That means we will grow as you need for us allows. By pre-purchasing, you are helping to fund the production of your food!

Second, Nebraska law regulates how poultry can be processed and at what stage in the lifecycle of the chicken the purchase must be made if it will not be processed at a USDA inspected facility. In 2019, Nebraska adopted the Prime Act’s exemptions for USDA processing which allows us to process poultry outside of a USDA inspected plant. That is awesome for small farms because there are no USDA inspected facilities that will accept small processing batches like the ones that we provide. Unfortunately, Nebraska does not have a state inspection program for small processing facilities to become licensed and start processing the chickens for small farms like ours. The solution for us is to sell the chicken while it is still alive and provide the processing as a perk of being our customer. We will not be charging for processing and the processing will be taken care of by a state inspected facility in Iowa - as they do have a program for small processors to become licensed.

Raw Milk:

We are blessed to have added four dairy cows to our farm this year. Their names are Bru, Joey, Jane and Lucy. Bru and Joey are both dry and not producing any milk. Jane and Lucy are at the end of their production cycle. Cows produce more milk right when they have a calf. After the calf grows and moves off of mama, the cow slowly stops producing. Currently, we are sold out of milk shares and are looking forward to late spring of 2025 when all four girls are in production!
